AMEA AND ITS MEMBERS KICK OFF 2018 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Will you be graduating from high school in the spring of 2018? Do you receive your electricity from a public power utility in Alabama? Then if your answer to these questions is “yes,” you could be eligible to receive a scholarship from the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) and its 11 Member cities/utilities.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Fairhope
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Fairhope by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Quail Creek Golf Course Transition Time
One of the great things about living in Fairhope, Alabama is the weather provides golfers with the opportunity to play all year long – weather permitting. And weather permitting are the operative words. It’s no secret that we compete annually with Seattle for the greatest amount of rainfall, and we seem to be winning that contest perhaps more frequently than we’d like.

The City of Fairhope Announces Memorial Day Activities
The City of Fairhope will honor its military veterans with a Memorial Day Program and Baldwin Pops Concert on Monday, May 29th. The program will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Fairhope Civic Center. The program will include: a moment of silence, prayer for deceased veterans, folding of the flag, and taps.

Fairhope Public Utilities recognized for reliable service to the community
Fairhope Public Utilities has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2016. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

Fairhope Historic Preservation Committee Introduces Treasured Historic Homes
The Fairhope Historic Preservation Committee has recently introduced a new program to recognize historic homes in our community. The committee has selected four historic homes that are symbolic of the history of Fairhope and also display the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission plaque. The yard sign, A Treasured Historic Home, is prominently displayed in front of each home to recognize and celebrate these treasured homes.

Fairhope Celebrates National Bike to School Day
Fairhope Elementary will join schools from around the country to celebrate National Bike to School Day on May 10. Families are encouraged to bike with their children to school to emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, fostering bicycle safety, reducing traffic congestion and creating respect for the environment. The nationwide events build connections between families, school and the broader community.

Forty-four (44) high school seniors will enroll in a four-year college/university, community college, and/or vocational school in Alabama this year with help from the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) and its 11 Members through the 2017 AMEA Scholarship Program.

Richard, along with Economic and Community Development Director, Sherry-Lea Bloodworth Botop, and the new Director of Planning, Wayne Dyess, welcome the challenges of building Fairhope in a smart, sustainable way.

CITY OF FAIRHOPE TOWN HALL MEETING SERIES CONTINUES
Curious about what's happening in Fairhope? Here's your chance to learn more. Mayor Karin Wilson is inviting citizens to attend informal Town Hall Meetings. At the meetings, citizens will be able to hear about and offer input regarding the city's plans and initiatives, and to bring other matters to the administration's attention. Representatives from various city departments will be available at each meeting to hear suggestions and answer questions. Members of the Fairhope City Council will also be attendance at the meetings.

April, 2017, Walking Tour Schedule
The first three start at the Welcome Center, the last at the Fairhope Colony Cemetery, at 10:00 AM and will last an hour. These do not involve long distances or fast walking. The April 22 tour is the longest, walking to Knoll Park and back.

Bash Brings Local Seafood and Music to Weeks Bay
What is better than watching the sunset over Weeks Bay while enjoying fresh Gulf shrimp and listening to awesome music? Not much, which is why the Weeks Bay Foundation wants you to mark your calendar for the 8th annual Bald Eagle Bash, April 22 from 4-7 p.m. This Party for Preservation helps raise money and awareness for the Foundation’s mission of protecting coastal wetlands.
