Employee Benefits are an integral part of choosing where to seek employment. The City of Fairhope is proud to offer a competitive Benefit Package which includes extremely affordable health insurance, dental insurance with an orthodontic option, vision insurance, employer-paid disability insurance, state pension retirement, deferred compensation options, and time off earned through seniority. Employee Benefits are offered through payroll deductions and administered by the Human Resources Department. The following are highlights of what the City has to offer its employees and their family members.

Health, Dental, & Vision Insurance

The City of Fairhope offers Medical and Dental Insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama at very competitive monthly rates. Medical Insurance offers a high-deductible and low-deductible option for both Individual and Family coverage. Additionally, employees may opt into the Wellness Program for an additional savings of $50 per month. For those employees and their dependents who are covered by the City’s Medical Insurance, they have the option to establish primary care with our on-site clinic, Symbol Clinic.

The City of Fairhope also offers Dental Insurance through Blue Cross of Blue Shield of Alabama. There are three (3) Dental options for Individuals, Employee + 1 Dependent, and Families: Base Plan, Enhanced Plan, and Enhanced Plan with Dependent Orthodontic.

Finally, the City offers Vision Insurance through Superior Vision. Superior Vision offers our employees affordable coverage with a wide network of providers in our area.

Voluntary Life Insurance & Disability Insurance

The City of Fairhope offers a robust package of life and disability insurance to our employees. All full-time employees are covered under a guaranteed $25,000 life insurance policy, with $50,000 guaranteed for all full-time Police Officers.  Voluntary Life Insurance is available for employees and spouses up to $500,000 and $250,000 respectively, and the issue amount is subject to the terms of the policy. Children are also covered at $10,000 each.

The City of Fairhope also covers all full-time employees with a Short-Term and Long-Term Disability policy which is entirely employer-paid.

Employees at the City of Fairhope will also accrue Paid Vacation Leave and Paid Sick Leave throughout the year. The accrual rate of Paid Vacation will depend on tenure at the City. Paid Sick Leave is accrued at a rate of 104 hours per year.

Retirement

The City of Fairhope employees working 20+ hours per week participate in the Employee’s Retirement Systems of Alabama. Employees contribute based on their Tier 1 or Tier 2 status. The City of Fairhope also adopted Tier 1 Retirement Benefits for our Tier 2 members effective October 1, 2023.

In addition to the participation in the Employee’s Retirement Systems of Alabama, the City of Fairhope also offers additional retirement opportunities through two retirement plans: RSA-1 and Empower Retirement. RSA-1 offers a pre-tax deferral plan and Empower offers pre-tax and ROTH deferral plans.
