Home MenuH.L. "Sonny" Callahan Airport
The H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope, Alabama has a 6,600-foot runway with a full-length parallel taxiway, augmented by an automated weather station (AWOS). It can accommodate a full range of propeller and jet traffic in good weather or bad.
The Fairhope Airport Authority acquired an additional 257 acres of land contiguous to the existing airport, to accommodate new buildings and other facilities which require access or close proximity to the runway environment. Companies or individuals wishing to create facilities at the airport may request further information by email.
Key tenants already located at the airport include a unit of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, and Continental Services which operates a full service FBO including complete maintenance facilities for almost any type of piston airplanes. Large and small hangars are also located on the field.
In March 2023, the FAA announced a $2 million grant to build a new general aviation terminal on the east side of the airport. As Mayor Sullivan said, the terminal will be “an attractive and modern welcoming center which will give visitors a great first impression, reflecting the image of Fairhope, and also further facilitating the business and cultural climate of Fairhope as air traffic into our city grows.” Construction will begin in 2023 with completion expected in fall 2024.
