Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners Chosen
On Saturday, February 11 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Faulkner State Community College, the City of Fairhope will celebrate Arbor Day. In celebration, fifth grade students from Fairhope Intermediate School and J. Larry Newton School participated in the 2017 National Arbor Day Poster Contest sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The contest theme was “Trees are Terrific…And Forests are Too!!”

FAIRHOPE CITY POOL TO OFFER PRIVATE AND GROUP SWIM LESSONS THIS SPRING
The City of Fairhope Municipal Pool will offer group children swim lessons beginning in March. A variety of classes will be offered including Parent and Child Aquatics focusing on infants and children ages 18 month to 3 year becoming comfortable with the water so they are willing and ready to learn to swim.

Baldwin Pops Band Celebrates 20th Anniversary Concert on February 2 at Fairhope Civic Center
In 1997, musicians Regina Bush and Tom Robinson, local band directors Steve Sims and Joe Riemer, and Bordon Morrow, then director of Continuing Education at Faulkner State College in Fairhope, had an idea for a new band in Baldwin County. Riemer was a founder and longtime member of the Mobile Pops Band, and he thought there might be interest for a similar band on this side of the Bay.

Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) 2017 Officers Announced
For 2017, the same officers were re-elected to serve the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department that have served for the past three years. Fire Chief Chris Ellis says this is the first time that’s ever occurred in the department’s 80-plus years. “As far as we can tell, we’ve never had the same people elected to serve for three years running. That’s significant, and I guess it means that the members like the way things are going.”

Fairhope Set to Celebrate Arbor Day on February 11
Fairhope’s Arbor Day comes a little early this year. “The actual date coincides with Mardi Gras, so we moved our celebration to Saturday, February 11, to make it easier for people to do everything in Fairhope this busy month,” said Jennifer Fidler, Director of Public Works for the City of Fairhope. The event takes place starting at 10am on the Fairhope Faulkner campus.

Christmas Tree Recycling: A Recipe for Making Mulch
The City of Fairhope will once again be collecting Christmas Trees from residents to turn into mulch. The City will be picking up the Christmas Trees during residents’ regular schedule trash day through February 3, 2017. Please make sure that all lights, ornaments and tree stands are removed prior to being placed out for pick up.

Fairhope Natural Gas Department in Nation’s Top 500
In the 36th annual comprehensive ranking from Pipeline and Gas Journal, Fairhope Natural Gas ranked 167th in the nation for number of customers. Robert Rohm, natural gas superintendent, says he expects that ranking to rise when the next list comes out.
