Ecumenical Ministries 14th Annual Chili for Charity cook-off is set for Saturday, February 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oak Hollow Farm. The fundraiser, popular with adults and children alike, will feature the lively music of Blind Dog Mike and the Howlers ,colorful inflatables and the balloon man for the young crowd, a bucking bronco for courageous participants, a huge variety of homemade desserts for sale and a chance to sample some of Baldwin County’s best chili. In 2013, 35 chili teams were part of the friendly competition along with sponsors at every level. Once again, long-time EMI supporters, Em and Joe Johnson, will be event sponsors and Lori Dubois and Tim from WABF will serve as emcees.
A variety of local potters will provide bowls for the event. Susie Bowman, owner of The Kiln, is coordinating the pottery donations. As in years past, Tom Jones Pottery will provide the prizes for the top five winners of the cook-off. All proceeds benefit EMI’s programs which assist Baldwin County neighbors facing situations such as a job loss, a medical emergency, a house fire or other life-altering problems.
Tickets are $5 for children (3-12) $10 for adults and a $30 ticket gets you one adult admission plus a handmade chili bowl. Bowls are available for as long as supplies last and can be purchased at EMI offices in Fairhope and Foley beginning mid-January. They can also be purchased at the gate.
