FREE SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS OFFERED BY LOCAL DERMATOLOGISTS
Haley Dermatology in partnership with the American Academy of Dermatology is offering free skin cancer screenings Thursday, May 5th from 4-6PM at Haley Dermatology 202 Rock Creek Pkwy, Fairhope AL.
The free screenings are part of a national campaign, SpotMe, to educate the public on the different types of skin cancer, the importance of early detection, and preventative measures. Over one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. Sun protection from harmful UV rays is necessary living along the gulf coast, as many enjoy waterfront and active lifestyles.
May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. Melanoma is the most fatal type of skin cancer, one American almost every hour dies from melanoma. The Academy of Dermatology has surveyed that more than 50% of Americans do not know the signs of melanoma and only 33% regularly examine their skin for melanoma. Dermatologists want to educate the public on the proper skin changes to look for common in melanoma patients. Melanoma can be cured when treated in its earliest stages. Dermatologists believe increasing public awareness of melanoma will lead to fewer fatalities.
