5th annual Baldwin County Yoga Week FREE Yoga Class

  • Date: 09/19/2015 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Location: Fairhope Pier Park

Local yoga studios will offer free yoga classes to new students during the fifth annual Mobile/Baldwin Yoga Week.

In recognition of National Yoga Month, more than 20 local yoga instructors and studio owners have teamed up to offer free yoga classes and events throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties. During the 5th annual Mobile/Baldwin Yoga Week, September 19 through 25, local studios will be offering free yoga classes to individuals that have not previously taken class at their studios.

Last year, more than 100 people participated in the kick off celebration for the inaugural Yoga Week and the group is anticipating an even larger turnout for this year’s event. To kick off Mobile/Baldwin Yoga Week, Yoga Life Fair, will be held from 2:30 -6 p.m., September 19, at Fairhope Pier Park.

Attendees will have the opportunity to get to know area yoga teachers and learn more about conscious living by visiting their informational booths with samples and raffles. A 30-minute, beginner yoga practice will begin at 3:30 p.m. and everyone is also invited to participate or observe the 30 minute sample workshops that follow. No experience is necessary and participants should bring their own mat or towel and water. Healthy snacks and tea will be provided by Sunflower Cafe & their will be live music all afternoon from Ric Kindle & Emily Stuckey.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children ages 5 and up. A children’s yoga class and mindful activities will be led for 5 to 8 year olds while the group yoga practice is taking place. Youth ages 8 and older are welcome to participate alongside parents in the main group class.

During the kick-off event and throughout Yoga Week, yoga instructors are encouraging participants to take part in seva (the yogic concept of selfless service) by bringing cash or can food items to free classes and events. Donations will be collected by yoga teachers and studios for the Bay Area Food Bank. Last year participating studios collected $557 and 1,196 pounds of food during Yoga Week to contribute approximately 3,705 meals to families and individuals in need along the Gulf Coast.
