Organizers of Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation’s Phantasy of the Arts 2014, promise partygoers a mind-boggling, laugh-filled evening with nationally acclaimed magician Dennis Watkins. The illusionist will entertain and mystify the audience on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Fairhope Civic Center.
Reviewed by The Chicago Tribune as, “the real technical deal…a highly theatrical and visually stunning show that contains magic of the very highest order,” Watkins is guaranteed to be a hit for public education in Fairhope. Phantasy co-chairs Anne Frost Kennedy and Nicole Olmstead agree this year’s event, now in its 11th year, will bring an unusual twist to the party.
“In the past, Phantasy has showcased a multitude of artistic genres from theatre to music to food, but we’ve never featured the art of magic,” said Kennedy. “With his blend of comedy and magical brilliance, we’re certain the audience will be both delighted and mesmerized by magician Dennis Watkins.” Kennedy said, as in past years, the event would also offer great food, as well as entertainment by the popular musical duo, The Kyle and Karl Band.
Since its beginning, Phantasy of the Arts has raised more than half a million dollars for Fairhope public school students. Most recently proceeds from the fundraiser have provided school-wide art and music enrichment for Fairhope Elementary School students, science lab instruction at Fairhope Intermediate School and J. Larry Newton School, and choral instruction at Fairhope Middle and Fairhope High Schools.
“While we continue to offer dollars for individual teacher and program requests, by collaborating with our principals to provide broader enrichment programs, FEEF is able to touch more students than ever before,” Olmstead explained. She said, this year the organization intends to continue offering school-wide enrichment at the lower grades and choral instruction for older students, while expanding science lab opportunities at Fairhope Intermediate and J. Larry Newton. “These enrichment programs not only allow our students to have a well-rounded education but also place an emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) so that Fairhope students can compete globally.”
