Downtown Fairhope Walking Tours

  • Date: 04/26/2014 10:00 AM

Do you ever wonder about the story behind some of the buildings in downtown Fairhope? If only buildings could talk, the stories they might have to tell! The next best thing is to take part in Fairhope’s Historic Walking Tours that explore the businesses and people of Fairhope’s past with local historian Donnie Barrett.

The tours take place on all four Saturdays in April—April 5, 12, 19 & 26. April 5 is a tour of Section Street, a block north and south of Fairhope Pharmacy and April 12 is a tour of Fairhope Avenue, one block east and west of Section Street. The tour on April 19 will be an introduction to Fairhope Museum of History’s new exhibit, “Baldwin County During the Civil War: The War Comes Home,” and will focus on how the Civil War affected our area. These three tours will depart from the Welcome Center at 10 a.m. The final tour, Saturday, April 26, meets at 10 a.m. at the Oak Street gate to the Colony Cemetery.  Barrett will give an overview of the town’s history with visits to the graves of many of Fairhope’s founders.

The tours are free and open to all. For more information, call 251-929-1471 or 251-929-1466.
